AFCON releases SNMP Driver

02/06/2010

The new SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) driver connects to SNMP-compliant devices over a TCP/IP network.  The new SNMP driver gives you a full outline of your network. The SNMP driver surveys the status of networked devices such as printers, servers and workstations and sends the information back to the P-CIM/Pulse workstation.

The driver provides P-CIM/Pulse with network monitoring and management functionalities that are widely used in the information technology (IT) and broadcast industries. Furthermore, the driver gets SNMP property values from the relevant MIBs (Management Information Base) and provides them, as well as trap implementation, to the P-CIM/Pulse application. The driver is compliant with both SNMP standards 1.0 and 2.0.

About the SNMP protocol

The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data is passed from the SNMP agents, which are hardware or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge) to the workstation console used to oversee the network. The agents return information contained in an MIB (Management Information Base), which is a data structure that defines what is obtainable from the device and what can be controlled (turned off or on).
SNMP 2.0 provides improvements including security and an RMON (Remote Monitoring) MIB, which provides continuous feedback without needing to be queried by the SNMP console.

The SNMP TCP/IP driver can be downloaded from the AFCON website in the Drivers Section.
